Currently Obsessed

Songs I'm currently obsessed with:

Juicy x The Notorious B.I.G

One Day x UGK

These are so random for me, but they are really great songs. Enjoy world

Back at it.

Biggest procrastinator award ----- duh I win. I'm back for a brief summer fling, maybe. I'm just too scattered to maintain this like I want to, but as usual I'm bored and I have some new ideas on how to make it better. Even if no one ever reads these posts I think it's going to be cool to look back at and see how my life changed.

IS the grass greener?

I have ALWAYS been one of those annoying people who wonder if the grass is greener, and I mean I always do this. Whenever I buy something or go somewhere I wonder how life would be if I did things differently. Of course these thoughts would plague me as I attempt to focus and study for midterms :(

I need some spice in my life! Honestly things have gotten soooo very mundane and I'm suffering. I like to have a schedule, but things are so boring right now. I need some new people or new conversation, something, because I'm SO BORED! I thrive off of good conversation and maybe that's what is missing from my life. Lately all of my conversations have been about school, tests internships....all of the regular things that make up the day. I always wonder if other people are having these marvelous conversations and am I somehow missing out.

I don't know why I always feel alone or isolated. Even though I like my personal space, I really am a very social creature. I like having people around to laugh with or even do random things with. This year I became friends with a lot of great friends, they really have changed my perspective of college and especially Hampton.

But even with all of that.....I still wonder. What if I had gone to a different school, what if I would have transferred when I wanted to. Would I have all of the relationships I thought I would???? I hate this part of my personality, making decisions is so hard for me and then I'm plagued with these annoying thoughts.

I am content with my life thus far, I just have to become more appreciative of the many many blessings I have. Which honestly (for me) is easier said than done.

Day One!!

For Lent this year I gave up using Twitter and drinking soda. While some people feel like sacrifices should be private, I have decided to make these two sacrifices public. They both have such an important role in my life, and I hope my story and journey could be helpful for someone else.

So day one. It has almost been 24 hours from my last Tweet! Although it hasn't even been a day I feel myself changing. Twitter was built into my daily routine, waking up, eating meals, walking to class, in between class, IN class....you name it, I was on Twitter. I think I would Tweet more times than I would pray, which is not acceptable. I know that I can concur this!

Soda on the other hand will be hard, because like Twitter I have built it into my daily routine. Mountain Dew - Breakfast, Dr. Pepper// Mountain Dew//Pepsi- Lunch , Mountain DewSierra Mist/ Crush - Dinner, Mountain Dew - After Dinner. This is INSANE! I should not be drinking more soda than water, so I hope to start drinking more water next week after a trip to the grocery store!

I plan to blog every day or at least three times a week!

Wish me luck (:

Are you anti-Valentine's Day?

Typically I am PRO Valentine's Day, but I was listening to Pandora earlier and I realized that break-up songs are seriously better than some love songs. So here are a few of my favorite break-up songs :

Someone Like You - Adele (6 Time Grammy Winner heeyyy!
)

I Don't Want You Back - Eamon

Best Thing I Never Had - BEYONCE!!

Pretty Wings - Maxwell

Me, Myself and I - Beyonce (:

Not having a Valentine isn't necessarily bad. I just want to celebrate the love that I have all around me, even if it doesn't come from a signifcant other. But if you must be bitter, at least you have some cool songs to listen to!

Is it really a Different World?

Before attending Hampton, many students watched “A Different World” in hopes of attaining insight on life at an HBCU. The camaraderie among students, energetic social gatherings and strict yet supportive professors all helped mold viewers expectations.
However the lessons of a classic sitcom may no longer be relevant to students more than 20 years later.
HBCUs have been under harsh criticism for years. With the recent introduction of a bill that would merge the black Southern University at New Orleans with the white campus of the University of New Orleans, America has been questioning the relevance and importance of HBCUs that are facing budget cuts and other challenges.  Critics feel that HBCUs are no longer important because racial relations within America have improved and the programs within historically black colleges may not compare with that of their white counter parts.
Despite these criticisms, students still choose to attend. However, the media has struggled for years on how to accurately portray the life of students at historically black colleges. While most emphasize the more social elements like sporting events or parties, students and professors alike believe it’s time for a change.
Dr. Leona Johnson, a psychology professor at Hampton University, wants HBCUs to be represented as the powerful institutions that they are. Dr. Johnson emphasizes that although “A Different World” did an excellent job at portraying the historic institutions, there were some key elements that were left out.
“We don’t see the reminder of leaving a legacy at your HBCU or how powerful the education is. We don’t see an obligation of leaving a legacy at your HBCU; it’s why I am at Hampton, to give back”
Being a graduate of two historically black institutions, Dr. Johnson feels that any new show or movie aimed at portraying HBCUs needs to be focused on the importance of education and the develop of students character and leadership abilities.
Will Wanzer, sophomore architecture major from Woodbridge, Va. would also like to see a change in how HBCUs are represented.  Although Wanzer is a member of the Marching Force, he feels that the emphasis movies and shows have on the band and other social organizations at HBCUs tends to overshadow the educational programs that students are involved in.
He, along with other students, admitted to watching movies like “Stomp the Yard” and “Drumline” and allowing them to mold his perception of college. However these perceptions, Wanzer says may not always help our institutions. “We aren’t seen as relevant and the culture is stereotyped.”
Geena Piedu, a junior nursing major from Alexandria, Va. stresses that the best way to show how relevant HBCUs are is to show students maintaining strong academic lives while also trying to have a social life, something that is more real and relatable to all college students.
As the state of HBCUs changes throughout America, their depiction needs to match that as well. While “A Different World” was the best representation at its time, students are now vying for a show that they can more easily relate to.

Grammy Review 2012

Some favorites of the night:

Clearly all of my favorites have something in common. Very form fitting looks that are simple and classy, but with a bit of risk. The Grammy's over all left me wanting a little bit more.

ADELE was amazing of course and Taylor Swift's performance was one of my favorites. LL Cool Jay did a great job as emcee, and kept the show interesting.

Chris Brown's performance was confusing and although I did like the tribute to Whitney Houston, I wish it was a little better.

Overall I give it around a 6.5-7, not bad - above average.
